“So the rapture didn’t happen. It could have been Ragnarök, it could have been the end of the world. And we would have been the end-core cuties. It would have been the collapse of the known.”
These were the words of visual artist Esben Holk, who helped open GRASP Vidensfestival 2025. With his inspiring and poetic speech about imagination, community, and the future, he set the scene for the festival’s programme.
After the speech, we caught up with him in front of his art installation Synthesizing Utopias and asked him to revisit his words – about art as a compass in a time that calls for new ways of dreaming and acting.

Esben Holk is a visual artist and digital media artist working with visual and interactive media, including game and media design. They are educated in visual game and media design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Esben’s works revolve around themes such as utopia, future thinking, and the co-creation of visual universes.
