Maker summit: DIY for the Future

FRIDAY 26 SEPTEMBER

A forum for everyone who creates, fixes, and shares knowledge

  • Friday 26 September

How do we build more sustainable solutions? How do we reclaim technology as something we can shape ourselves? And what can we learn from one another when we build, repair, and rethink the world around us?

At a time when production, maintenance, and reparation are mostly handled by industry, the maker movement is rising as a counterforce. It is about reclaiming ownership of technology and materials – and maintaining the right and ability to design, repair, invent, upgrade, extend, and repurpose the things we live with.

This summit invites grassroots practitioners from makerspaces and fablabs in local communities, schools, libraries, and universities. We will exchange knowledge, hacks, and experiences – and explore how maker culture can contribute to global challenges such as the climate crisis, material waste, and increasing circularity.

The format is open and informal, giving space for a wide range of makers to share their ideas and insights. During the session, we will host a Pecha Kucha-style open soapbox, where you are invited to give a 5-minute presentation about something you or your maker space has been working on.

You might share what you are working on right now, a creative solution or hack you have come up with, sustainable ideas at the intersection of technology, society, and nature, how you upcycle rather than simply recycle, or what major challenges you believe we need to address together.

All curious minds – with or without a toolbox – are welcome.
