OpEn x GRASP Pop Up

War and conflict as a motivational force - how do we harness pubic engagement?

Join us for the OpEn X GRASP Pop-Up og this fall, where, in collaboration with OpEn and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Information and Engagement Fund, we will focus on the complex dilemmas that arise when private or very small organizations step in with aid in global hotspots.

Public engagement plays a crucial role in the efforts of humanitarian organizations, as they are highly dependent on both support and donations — especially when wars break out. However, in times of crisis, we often see citizens taking matters into their own hands, collecting clothes, food and money for the affected areas. While the intention is good, it can sometimes be ineffective or even directly harmful.

The large NGOs encourage us to let them handle the funds – but the question is, can they adapt to the spontaneous will to help, harness the engagement, and turn it into a strength for all parties involved? How can we create a balance that benefits both the aid efforts and those involved?

The evening’s panel presents an exciting mix of prominent voices: Secretary General of Røde Kors, Anders Ladekarl; Project Coordinator for Landsforeningen for Økosamfund, Camilla Englyst; District Consultant at KFUM/KFUK, Rasmus Jeppesen; and Carl Emil Petersen, songwriter and musician best known from the band Ulige Numre, who will also add musical performances to the evening. The debate will be expertly moderated by Sven Johannesen, editor-in-chief of Globalnyt.

Sign up and take part in an engaging conversation about responsibility, initiative, and aid in times of crisis.

The event is free.

Time and place: November 28th, 17-19 at Røde Kors on Blegdamsvej in Copenhagen

Open X GRASP Pop Up is organized in collaboration with OpEn – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Information and Engagement Fund, and CISU, Civil Society in Development, and is part of OpEn’s series of inspiration meetings.

Accessibility: We are going to be in the Dunant room located on the 2nd floor at Røde Kors. There is a spiral staircase and a small elevator. Rows of chairs are set up, which can easily be rearranged.

There is access to an accessible restroom in the reception area, which can be reached via a lift. There is a 5 cm step at the main entrance, but wheelchairs can pass over it. We can open both doors if an extra-wide wheelchair is needed.

Public transportation: The nearest metro station is Trianglen St. If you're taking the bus, route 1A stops right in front of the building.

Parking: There is parking available on Blegdamsvej. All parking close to the Røde Kors building is not for free. We therefore recommend paying attention to the various parking rules in Østerbro.
