Community as Counterforce

THURSDAY 1 OCTOBER

Music communities, agency and sustainable working lives.

  • Thursday 1 October

The music industry is under pressure. New business models, technological change and an increasing culture of performance are creating unpredictable conditions. For many musicians, the rapid pace of change is accompanied by performance anxiety, loneliness and stress.

At GRASP, SOUND, in collaboration with RMC and Zealand, explores how the future of music can become healthier and more sustainable. Through a two-part programme featuring talks, a concert and shared reflection, we examine how professional communities can serve as support systems, counterforces and starting points for new ways of creating and working.

In the panel, musicians and professionals share experiences with new collective ways of working, where sketches and unfinished works are developed together. The conversation explores how shared reflection and strong communities can become practical tools for both creative and professional development, while also contributing to more sustainable working lives for musicians.
