Strategic Foresight for Entrepreneurs

THURSDAY 1 OCTOBER

How Can We Predict When Innovation Will Arrive?

  • Thursday 1 October

How can we predict when innovation will happen? If we can already imagine future technologies and solutions today, why have they not yet become reality? And why do they so often seem to remain five or ten years away?

In this interactive lecture, you will gain insight into how strategic foresight addresses these questions and how, in some cases, the future can be brought closer. Learn how innovation forecasting and roadmapping can be used to understand and shape the future, while supporting the development of new businesses and projects.

Stratgeic foresight – the ability to create knowledge about the future and act in anticipation of it – may be one of the defining characteristics of humanity. Strategic foresight is a branch of futures studies that explores planning practices and thought experiments focused on the future. Many of the tools and methods used today were originally developed in military, healthcare, and business contexts, but are now widely applied across organisations to facilitate informed conversations about the future and support strategic decision-making.

This lecture challenges the myth of the entrepreneur as a hunter of the minimum viable product and introduces key methods from futures studies, demonstrating how they can be applied by entrepreneurs, startups, and project managers seeking to improve their chances of success and maximise the impact of their initiatives.

You will leave with inspiration to think further ahead, work more systematically with innovation, and turn future scenarios into concrete action.
