Harvest Festival

THURSDAY 26 SEPTEMBER

An artistic harvest workshop on the human relationship with nature

  • Thursday 26 September
    Værkstedet, 13:30

Grab a handful of straw and join us as the Museum of Contemporary Art invites you to a harvest festival. Inspired by visual artist Sidsel Bonne's work "Grødegejster, Agerånder" (2022), featured in the Museum's exhibition: "In the Darkness, We Ask the Sun to Remember Us”, we will explore ancient harvest traditions.

In the workshop, we will weave works of grain for the spirits of the fields to hibernate in, allowing them to restore the soil and ensure a good harvest for the coming year. This belief and ritual have existed in Danish and Nordic agriculture for millennia.

The ritual points to a special gratitude for the earth, which Western culture has gradually moved away from since industrialization. Monoculture became necessary for the efficiency of agricultural production, and the diversity of the few grain types we use today is minimal.

Can a green tripartite agreement address humanity's complicated relationship with nature, or must we dig deeper within ourselves to find the answer to a greener future through our spiritual attitude towards the world?

Presented in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art.
