Diary from La Paz

THURSDAY 25 SEPTEMBER

Personal Stories from the Margins – a film and debate

  • Thursday 25 September

In the OpEn-supported documentary Diary from La Paz, four Bolivian street teenagers: Luis, Camilla, Oscar, and Abigail share their stories through their own recordings.

The 17-year-old Luiz has been sent to jail for stealing, leaving behind his two-year-old child and the young mother Camilla. 16-year-old Oscar is living under a bridge and is fighting for a better life. Abigail is trying to create a better future and is, against all odds, trying to finish her school.

Through intimate and personal accounts, these four young Bolivians shed light on their daily struggles for survival on the streets of La Paz. “Diary from La Paz” reveals the harsh reality faced by Bolivia’s street people- a life marked by limited freedoms, pervasive inequality, poverty, and violence.

The screening will be followed by a debate between, the filmmaker Jonatan and the documentary legend Mette Hoffmann Meyer. Discussing the issues of the film, how it’s compatible to be a street child in Denmark and how to ensure local narratives, being a filmmaker from the outside.
