Under the same moon

What role should artistic storytelling from the climate struggle in the Global South play here at home? And whose voices should tell it?

Under the Same Moon is a travelogue from the frontline of climate change and a meeting with African realities – where drought threatens populations in one part of the continent, while the ocean eats cities away in the west. The travelogue zooms in on how we tell and talk about the many-layered consequences of the climate crisis, both here and in places where its impact is undeniably immediate.

In 2023, author Peder Frederik Jensen and photographer Anders Rye Skjoldjensen traveled to Cameroon, Senegal, and Kenya to write about the challenges faced by this vast and complex continent in a world where weather and climate are rapidly changing. And where those least responsible for the crisis are the ones paying the highest price.

Despite the bleak realities they reported from the three countries, they also encountered hope and familiarity – especially among young climate activists in Kenya, whose fight mirrors that of youth in Denmark. Through the voices of individuals, their stories are shared in powerful portraits – both in words and images.

Since their journey in 2023, the story has been told across newspaper articles, a published book, and countless talks. At GRASP 2025, the author and photographer reflect on how their work has been received – and what it means for us today.
