Voices from Global Hotspots

Three unique experiences bring you closer to life, conflict, and the fight against climate change. The documentary Diary from La Paz takes you inside the daily struggles of four young people fighting for survival on the streets of Bolivia’s capital. After the screening, meet the director and documentary legend Mette Hoffmann Meyer in a conversation about the film’s ethical and social perspectives. You can also experience the award-winning documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin, where a courageous elementary school teacher secretly exposes Putin’s militarization of Russian schools. Following the film, we dive into a debate on fake news and disinformation with the film’s producer. And in Under the Same Moon, we journey to the frontlines of climate change in Cameroon, Senegal, and Kenya—and discuss how we can communicate the complex realities of the climate struggle here at home.

New Perspectives on Development and Consumption

How can we decolonize development work and create locally anchored solutions? Change-maker Nana Asantewa Afadzinu offers her insights in the talk Decolonizing Development, challenging traditional aid models and presenting new pathways for African-led transformation. With the art installation Return to Sender, we are confronted with the dark side of the fashion industry. Created by the Kenyan art collective The Nest Collective, the work presents landscapes of discarded clothing—a powerful statement on the need for circular economy and more sustainable consumption.

The Mechanisms of Change – When Small Nudges Create Big Shifts

How does a society actually tip toward new norms and behaviors? Rune Baastrup explores this question in the talk When Society Tips – In The right Direction, followed by the workshop Small Shifts, Big Waves – Social Tipping Points in Practice. Here, you’ll gain concrete tools to turn theory into action—and create change that spreads like ripples in water. And for those seeking a mental compass in a world marked by climate crisis and systemic shifts, the session Rewilding Within with Per Espen Stoknes is a must. With psychological insight and practical strategies, he shows how to find hope and agency amid uncertainty.

Global Engagement Should Be Everyone’s Cause

OpEn – the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Information and Engagement Fund – aims to make global outlook, solidarity, and engagement a cause for all. Global development concerns us all.

OpEn, managed by CISU – Civil Society in Development and Roskilde Festival Foundation in collaboration with Democracy x and The Why Foundation, distributes approximately DKK 21 million annually until 2029 to projects that create knowledge, attitudes, and action in Denmark about global development.
