Learn dogme knitting

SATURDAY 3 OCTOBER

Take part in a slow rebellion against mass production and the commercial yarn industry.

  • Saturday 3 October

Slow down, take a breath – and join a workshop with the wolo collective Hedestrik where you’ll get hands-on with raw wool and learn a new way of working with it.

Dogme knitting is an ode to slowness through craft. You pull long strands of raw wool, feel the warmth of the lanolin, roll your own ball of yarn, imagine your project – and then you begin knitting.
When we practice dogme knitting, we use the resources available where we live. The technique uses unprocessed raw wool without carding or spinning. It is a natural, sustainable and simple process that produces beautiful results.

In this workshop, we come together to knit without rush, without mass production, and without hurrying toward a finished sweater. Dogme knitting offers a sustainable alternative to chemically dyed yarns, plastic-based yarns, yarn transported across long distances, and wool from sheep treated as mass-produced commodities rather than living animals.

You don’t need to be an experienced knitter to participate, but it helps if you know how to knit, purl and cast on stitches. Raw wool will be provided, but you have to bring your own knitting needles – all sizes are welcome.

Hedestrik is a community working with Danish raw wool. They shine a light on Nordic wool that is often treated as a waste product by promoting traditional dogme practices as an alternative to the fast-paced yarn industry. In 2024, Hedestrik opened a wool culture house in Nørrebro, Copenhagen, and published the book Hedestrik; Wool, Craft and Landscapes.

Language: Danish

The workshop is presented by Hedestrik.
