Transformation

FRIDAY 26 SEPTEMBER

From a Decaying Masterpiece to a Thriving New Universe

  • Friday 26 September

The iconic Viking Ship Hall, home to five original Viking ships, is facing a major transformation due to the threat of storm surges. A new building is being planned to house the ships, and once they are relocated, the historic hall will be reimagined and brought to life in a new form.

The vision is to create an inspiring and engaging maritime universe for children, young people, and adults — one that explores the relationship between humans and nature within our maritime culture, from the Stone Age into the future.

The ambition is to make environmental history relevant and compelling by linking it to today’s environmental and climate challenges, and to show how maritime heritage can point the way towards a hopeful future. But how does one approach such a transformation? And how can the old ship hall remain relevant to the museum visitors of tomorrow?

A dedicated panel invites you to join a conversation designed to inspire, challenge, and broaden our understanding of how to transform and create a space filled with hope and agency.
